Photos from the "Family Album"

It's cold and drizzling outside, so while I'm inside and trying to stay warm, I thought I would share a few more pictures from the "Family Album". Unfortunately, they are in no particular order - I just picked a few I thought you might find interesting. Enjoy!

A Flash from the Past

Thanks Dennis for inviting me to join your family's blog. The pictures are wonderful! Given our mutual family tree, I thought you might be interested in some of the older photos I've inherited. I've scanned part of them, including the two I'm including below. I'll be glad to post additional photos from time to time or share copies of what I have with anyone who is interested.

How To Preserve A Husband

copied from "Ladies Aid Cookbook"; Methodist Ladies; Kenmare, N. Dakota; 1910

Be careful in the selection, do not choose too unripe or too old. Best results obtained if he has been raised in a family atmosphere. Some insist on keeping him in a pickle; others prefer to keep him in hot water. Such treatment, however, makes the husband sour, hard and sometimes bitter.

Many housewives have found that even poor varieties can be rendered tender and good by a garnish of patience, the sweetening of a smile, and the flavoring of a kiss to taste. Wrap him in a mantle of charity, place him over a warm fire of domestic devotion, and serve with peaches and cream.

(To preserve a wife, follow above guidelines. If taste remains unsuitable, return to oven for thirty minutes on oven-clean setting.)

Christmas Party Dec 29, '07

Bev always finds a way to get in front of the cameras. She makes her own presentation to dad.
Joyce is looking over the desserts before she dives in. Last time I saw an outfit like hers, the lady was pregnant. Do you think...........?

David telling Scott and Miss about a bad dream he had recently.

Joe McClure bowing down as dad scolds him for cutting off all his hair.

Grandma Judy telling Brooklyn to be nice and say, "Thank you."

Dad asking Bev & Joyce to please come and visit him more often in 2008

Mom & Dad opening their Christmas card and $$ gift. Notice how bright mom's eyes are!

Wendy with Jaydon....sure hope I spelled his name correctly.

Evan and Mason discussing the gifts they hope to get.

Billy with his friend, Nicole.

Nathan reads the instructions on his gift while Mason is ready for his gift too.

The gift table before it all started! It was a mess afterwards!

While the adults ate around the tables, the children had fun in the other room. Jake Knotts fit nicely into the locker.

Caleb Knotts loved his gift but is trying to figure it out.

Mike drew a good number and received a CD/FM radio that plays in the shower!

Grayson played the Cello for us but we all had to gather in the choir room where dad accompanied him on the piano.

Buelah's Dad

Buelahs dad, Owen McAnelly, age 98, died last Sunday. We had such a good visit with him on the Thursday after Christmas and we thought he was getting better (recovering from pneumonia) and would make it to at least 99 on Feb 6. Then, just about 3 hours after we arrived back home here in Olathe, she received a call telling her that her dad had just died. So, we are making plans to go on back to Indiana tomorrow. I will attach a picture and also a copy of the obituary that will appear in the Columbus newspaper later this week. Please remmeber to pray Buelah and all of us as we move through this week.

Owen E. McAnelly, 98, of Columbus passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 6:02pm at the Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness
Owen worked many years at True Temper and also worked at Golden Foundry. He served in the CCC as a barber during WW II.
Owen had a “Green thumb” and loved to spend time in the garden and yard, working with plants, bushes, and trees. He also loved to fish and spend time in KY with family and friends. In his later years, he loved watching the Colts, Pacers, NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves.
Owen loved his family, and enjoyed watching his son play baseball and would spend countless hours hitting grounders to his son who played baseball for Columbus High School and Franklin College. He was also close to his daughter, taking several trips with her and her family.
The funeral will be conducted at 10am Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Dennis Apple officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at 9am to time of service Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be made to the Denny Apple Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mid-America Nazarene University (2030 E. College Way, Olathe, KS 66062)
Online condolences may be sent to the McAnelly family at www.barkesweaverglick.com

Owen was born February 6, 1909 in Adair County, KY; he was the last surviving member of his family that included eleven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his, significant other, Pauline Perkins and her family.
Other survivors include a son, William McAnelly (Linda) of Baldwinsville, NY, daughter Buelah Apple (Dennis) of Olathe, KS. Grandchildren: Kimberly McAnelly, New York City, Kara Milair (Dana), Windham, ME, Andrew Apple, Olathe, KS. Great Grandchildren: Justin & Jeremy Milair, and many nieces and nephews. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New year to all of you! Hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year's Eve. We went over to a friend of ours' home and had dinner. They have two children the same ages of ours and a gigantic playroom....we didn't see the kids for hours :) (except when we were checking on them of course) We played games and I won the "Friends" Seen It game....Yay! New Years Eve is Chase's birthday, which we're not celebrating until this Saturday (huge party!) But our friend Tabitha was nice enough to bake him a cake and we all sang to him anyways...he was so cute, he thought all the fireworks going off outside were for his birthday :) We set off our own fireworks in their driveway....only little ones of course, but the kids loved it. We all wrapped up with blankets and us ladies were bundled up with the littlest ones in our laps. We watched the ball drop on one of those networks??? which one? I have no idea, and hung around until 1:30 a.m. The kids all got to experience staying up that late for the first time.....they were WIRED!!! We had a wonderful, very tame New Years Eve....and I'd say it was one of the best ever!

I want to wish you all one of your best years ever. I hope 2008 is a year full of love, happiness and prosper! Oh, yeah....and a lot of extra time and money for me to make trips out to visit you all! Take care and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Love,
Anna
